This is lead supervisory and participatory work of a physical nature in the performance of grounds maintenance and landscaping involving manual skills and knowledge above basic laboring.  Work requires skill in training, instructing and organizing a small work crew in the maintenance of grounds and assisting with landscaping projects, through mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, the pickup of litter and the planting, removing and care of various turfs, ground covers, plants, flowers, shrubs, and trees; and determining procedures to carry out assignments received through written and oral instructions.  Work includes the operation of light-duty automotive equipment and power tools, specialized machines, and small turf equipment, such as chain saws, trimmers and mowers, to maintain grounds.  An employee in this class personally participates in the work, may perform the more skilled and difficult tasks, and performs heavy manual labor, occasionally under adverse weather conditions. 

Salary:  $40,997 - $56,306 Close Date: 07-16-2018 (4:00 PM DST)

To Qualify Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:·   Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.·   Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "N" endorsement at time of appointment.·   Possess and maintain a Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association’s Certified Horticulture Professional Certification or be able to obtain the certification within 12 months of appointment to the position.·   Possess and maintain a FDOT Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic Certification or be able to obtain the certification within 12 months of appointment to the position.·   Possess and maintain a Florida Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicators License for right-of-way and ornamental/turf or be able to obtain the license within 12 months of appointment to the position.·   Possess and maintain a State of Florida Limited Commercial Fertilizer Applicators License or be able to obtain the license within 12 months of appointment to the position.·   Have at least 18 months of progressive grounds maintenance and/or landscaping experience that includes small turf equipment experience and knowledge of best management practices.·   Be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Desirable Qualifications: Preferred applicants:·   Have at least 6 months of supervisory experience of a landscape crew.·   Have a State of Florida Applicator License for Pesticides.·   Are able to prepare routine reports and maintain records.·   Have knowledge of materials, methods and techniques commonly used in grounds maintenance activities.·   Have good working knowledge of basic computer systems.·   Are skilled in the operation of various hand and power tools and light-duty automotive equipment.Selection Process .
