Position performs highly skilled labor tasks and the operation of heavy equipment required for the maintenance, repair and construction of streets, sidewalks, grounds, equipment, facilities, utilities and other publicly owned property by working with private utilities and construction companies to minimize service disruptions and by responding to emergency situations.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Operates heavy trucks, both single and dual axle, and with or without attachments, such as plows, sanders, and chemical spreaders for the removal and/or hauling of debris, snow and ice, etc. from public property and transporting materials.
2. Operates front-end loader, bulldozer, compactor, grader, backhoe and excavator.
3. Hauls equipment using heavy trucks, both single axle and dual axle, and tag-a-long trailer.
4. Performs walk around inspection on assigned equipment and preventive maintenance tasks such as greasing, fluid top offs, etc., necessary for the proper operation of equipment.
5. Performs work in any planned service interruptions or shut down and repair of systems during emergencies.
6. Responds to emergency situations, assists in the direction and supervision of activities and work, operates equipment.
7. Promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
8. Performs maintenance, repair and construction of the water and wastewater system infrastructure.
9. Assists in the daily operations and maintenance of the water and wastewater treatment plants and facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and requirements, as required.


A candidate for this position must have graduated from High School or the equivalent, have three (3) years’ experience in heavy equipment operation in utility and/or highway construction, and a Commercial Driver’s License Class B; and a NH DES Grade II Water Distribution certification, a NEWEA Grade II Waste Water Collection System Operator certification, a NH DES Solid Waste certification and a NEWWA Backflow Prevention Device Inspector/Tester certification, as required.

Applicants with the required certifications are strongly preferred. Otherwise qualified applicants without the required certifications may be considered; however, as a condition of employment, a valid Backflow Prevention Device Inspector/Tester certification must be obtained within 3 months of appointment and all other required certifications must be obtained within one year of appointment. Position subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing. Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment physical and pre-employment DOT drug and alcohol test.
